Book Review | Run Rose Run by Dolly Parton & James Patterson | prettylittlewriter

 A wonderfully country, heart-warming and fast-paced novel.

Synopsis
'Every song tells a story.
She’s a star on the rise, singing about the hard life behind her.
She’s also on the run. Find a future, lose a past.
Nashville is where she’s come to claim her destiny. It’s also where the darkness she’s fled might find her. And destroy her.'

I've always been a huge country music fan, and more specifically, Dolly Parton fan. When she announced this novel co-written with James Patterson, an author who's previous work I've also enjoyed, I knew it was going to be something I loved.

AnnieLee is just a joyous, badass, country-music hopeful with a hidden past that leaves you desperate to find out what has happened for her to constantly be looking over her shoulder.
Ethan is an absolute angel, who you want desperately for AnnieLee to let in, as all he wants to do from the moment he meets her is take care of her.
And Ruthanna, well, you can just tell that she has been modelled on Queen Dolly herself; she is the epitome of cool, she knows her worth and won't settle for less, and is just a complete and utter sweetheart.

The novel has been written so well that you really do feel like you're in the heart of Nashville throughout, following AnnieLee as she tries to escape her past and chase her dreams.
True Patterson style, the novel is also quick and snappy, with short chapters that keep you saying 'just one more' until you've practically read the whole book in one day.

I cannot fault this novel at all as I love a quick-paced thriller, and I felt completely satisfied with the direction the story took.

The only thing I was disappointed in was the ending, as I felt it was quite rushed, and that there wasn't quite enough romance involved, but otherwise, it was an absolutely brilliant novel!

4.5/5 stars

Review | Taylor Swift 1989 | prettylittlewriter

Apologies for being off the radar for a week or so, I've been having the time of my life down south in Devon for my niece's wedding.

I have been waiting for this day to come for months and finally it's here, the release of Taylor Swift's new pop album, 1989. I love Taylor incredibly and I knew I'd like anything she releases, but I wasn't sure when she announced this album was going to be pop instead of country, but my God she is killing it!

I thought I'd do a little review on the tracks and let you in on my personal favourites from the album!

I have found it particularly hard to select only a few favourites from every single one of Taylor's albums, and 1989 is no exception. Every time I think I've found my all time favourite, she comes along with another epic track.

1. Wildest Dreams
This is probably my current favourite from the album as it fits my personal life right now. The song is all about being with someone/meeting someone and sharing something special, and hoping that they remember you, even if it's only in their wildest dreams.
'He's so tall and handsome as hell, he's so bad but he does it so well, and when we had our very last kiss, my last request is, say you'll remember me standing in a nice dress staring at the sunset babe'

2. Blank Space
This song is all about getting into something with a guy and knowing that it is either going to be incredible or just burn down in flames but not even caring. I love this song because it's showing that Taylor knows exactly what she is doing when she gets into a relationship.
'Saw you there and I thought, Oh my God, look at that face, you look like my next mistake'

3. Wonderland
A bonus track on the album, this song is all about falling into a kind of Wonderland with a guy; in their own little world just for them even after being warned by other people that it is a bad idea.
'Didn't they tell us don't rush into things? Didn't you flash your green eyes at me? Didn't you calm my fears with that Cheshire cat smile?'

4. New Romance
Another bonus track, a very upbeat anthem all about not caring what others think and being different and young and reckless.
'Baby, we're the new romantics, come on, come along with me, heartbreak is the national anthem, we sing it proudly'

5. How You Get The Girl
Another really fun and upbeat song, all about the things a guy can do to win over that special girl.
'I want you for worse or for better, I would wait forever and ever'

6. Shake It Off
Most of you will have heard this track already, and it is one of my favourites because it is just such a fun song and makes me want to dance whenever I hear it!
'Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play, and the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate'

7. I Know Places
Quite a dark track telling the story of a couple being hunted by what can be assumed as paparazzi, and finding places to hide and enjoy their romance.
'Cause they got the cages, they got the boxes and guns, they are the hunters, we are the foxes, and we run'

8. You R In Love
And finally, another bonus track that is all about finding an amazing love and all the little things that let you know that you are in love.
'Morning, his place, burnt toast, Sunday, you keep his shirt, he keeps his word'

Have any of you checked out Taylor's new album? Let me know what your opinions are in the comments!

Holiday Playlist | prettylittlewriter

As a huge music lover, going on holiday just wouldn't be the same without an amazing playlist to go with it. So I thought I'd give you all a sneak peek into the playlist I have created for my holiday to Florida. I have a small Ipod Nano which I will be using instead of my Iphone (which is what I usually use; spotify).

So as you can see, there is a huge variety of artists and genres included, my main favourites are Country stars such as Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert, to Rap with Iggy Azalea. I absolutely adore country music and as I'm going to America (the home of country), I knew I had to include it in my playlist!

A couple of my favourite artists currently are Troye Sivan and Hilary Duff.
Troye has recently released his first EP (Trxye) and Hilary is making a comeback after years of time off from music!

My favourite song by these artists are Happy Little Pill (Troye) and All About You (Hilary).
All About You is a very summery and upbeat song which suits such a sunny place as Florida! And Happy Little Pill is quite edgy and different which is why I love it so much!

As I am going to Disneyworld, of course I have to have some Disney songs on my playlist!
I have songs from Frozen, Mulan, The Jungle Book and many more!

I hope you like this little sneak peek into my holiday playlist! It's getting so close now and I am getting incredibly excited!
Once I am over there, I am hoping to Vlog some of my experience for you all, so subscribe to my Youtube channel and look out for that! And I will also be doing some OOTD posts, however these will all come once I am back home as I won't be taking my laptop with me!

Thank you for reading!

Favourites | Country Music Singles | prettylittlewriter

Apologies for the lateness of this blog post, I've been super busy today with work, going to the gym and then my sisters' house!

So to make it up to y'all, I thought I'd throw together a quick post about my favourite country songs of the moment! :)

First up is Jason Aldean's new single, 'Burnin' It Down'. Quite a chilled track, great for winding down to after a hard day at work! It is also a very sexy song; it makes me feel a lot more confident in myself and my body when listening to it!
It has a really memorable chorus; I often catch myself humming or singing it!
Check out the Lyric Video for the song here - http://youtu.be/hC2tLWMMF38

Next up are two of my FAVOURITE music artists EVER. Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert.

These two ladies are not only beautiful, their personalities and their voices are just as stunning! Their collaboration track is something I'm sure A LOT of country music fans have been waiting for, and it sure doesn't disappoint!
Their song 'Something Bad', describes two women who meet and decide to band together and cause havoc! It's an edgy and fun track, and with Miranda's twang and Carrie's sweet tone, it has the perfect vocals!

Next up is the lovely miss Lucy Hale's new single 'Lie a Little Better', taken from her debut album 'Road Between'.

This song is very summery and fun, with a hint of emotion within. The basics of the 'plot' for the track is that Lucy had a crush on a member of the Pretty Little Liars cast and found herself not being able to control her emotions/feelings around him and letting it slip. Which is why she sings 'I Guess I Should Have Learned How To Lie A Little Better'.
Most of Lucy's song have that fun, 'get up and dance' feel to them, and this one is no exception!

And last but not least is 'Girl In a Country Song' by Maddie & Tae.

These two beautiful ladies sing about how recently a lot of country songs, mostly those by male country singers, have nearly naked girls in every video and have become objects to be looked at, rather than having a character and a reason to be in the song/music video.
This track is a fresh new look at country music and how it should be, not what it has become.
Their true country twang is a beautiful sound, and the song is overall a very catchy and fun tune. It's certainly a breath of fresh air to hear a country song that isn't about love and heartbreak, and these girls have created a good'en.
The music video is also very humorous! Instead of the women being sexy and dancing, it is the men.

So there you have it, my top four country songs of the moment! Comment if you'd like me to do more of these posts or if there is anything in particular you'd like to see :)
