Top 5 Tuesdays | Christmas Movies | prettylittlewriter

With all my Christmas gifts wrapped and ready to go, this Festive season really is in full force for me.
So for this week's top 5 Tuesdays, I thought I'd share with you my all time favourite Christmas movies!

1. How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

This film revolves around a grumpy old Grinch who lives up in the Mountains of Whoville, intent on destroying Christmas for the residents of Whoville.
This is my favourite Christmas film as it is suitable for all the family, with certain references only adults will understand yet won't affect children, and Jim Carrey as one of his funniest characters to date.

2. It's A Wonderful Life.

An old classic, filled with love and tender moments, this story is all about an angel who helps a compassionate but despairingly frustrated businessman by showing him what life would be like if he had never existed.
An amazing movie to watch with your loved ones, it really envelops the spirit of Christmas.

3. Home Alone.

A must have movie to watch every single year, this movie revolves around little Kevin McAllister who is left home alone when the rest of his family go on holiday for Christmas. He then encounters some dangerous thieves who are intent on robbing the house, but little do they know that they messed with the wrong kid!

4. Elf.

A feel good movie all about the boy Santa took in as an elf who grows up and wants to meet his real Father. Buddy goes to New York to find his Father, only to find out that not everyone believes in the spirit of Christmas.
One of Will Ferrell's best character performances, Elf is a must watch movie every Christmas!

5. Blackadder's Christmas Carol.

Technically not a movie, but a special Christmas episode of Blackadder, this episode see's Blackadder in the Dickensian Era as Ebenezer Scrooge. A twist on the classic A Christmas Carol, as Blackadder begins as a pleasant human, but after having visits from his ancestors and descendants turns into his original cruel and witty self.

What are your favourite Christmas movies? :)

Halloween Movies | prettylittlewriter

October is upon us and with that comes cosy evenings by the fire, jumpers, candles and hot chocolate. But best of all is that we're able to watch Halloween films without judgement.

I thought I'd share with you all my favourite Halloween films and hopefully make you want to watch them yourselves!

Double Double Toil and Trouble (1993)

This movie features the incredibly talented Olsen twins, not to mention how bloomin' cute they are in this movie!

The plot revolves around two sisters who's family home is about to be repossessed when they discover that their wicked Aunt Agatha is in fact, a Witch! Thanks to a moonstone she found in the past, Aunt Agatha can cast spells and do all sorts of evil tricks, even keeping their Good Aunt Sophia trapped inside her house.
Twins Kelly and Lynn have to work together with others to defeat Aunt Agatha, save Aunt Sophia and save their family home.

Halloweentown and Halloweentown 2 (1998 & 2001)

Definitely favourites of mine, Halloweentown revolves around a family of children who have no idea that they have magical blood until their Aunt Aggie comes to visit at Halloween. Aunt Aggie wishes to start the eldest daughter's witch training before her 13th birthday or her powers will be gone forever, but before Marnie can master to art of Witchcraft, many obstacles have to be faced.
Halloweentown 2 is very similar to the first, the family splitting their time between Halloweentown and their family home, but another baddie announces themselves and they have to defeat them.

 The Witches (1990)

This movie used to frighten me a lot as a child, and it still kinda does! The witches faces are absolutely terrifying!

The story begins with a young boy going away with his family to a hotel and stumbles across a Witches convention planning something evil. The boy has to figure out a way to stop them even after being turned into a mouse!

Scooby Doo and the Witch's Ghost (1999)

Not necessarily a Halloween film, but out of all the Scooby Doo animated movies, I find this to be the spookiest and most relevant to Halloween.
The plot follows the Scooby gang as they visit Oakhaven, Massachusetts, at the invitation of a famous writer. The gang have to solve the mystery of a Witch's ghost that is haunting the town.

Another favourite Scooby Doo movie is Scooby Doo on Zombie Island (1998). This is by far the creepiest and scariest Scooby Doo movie, and definitely my favourite! This involves the gang going off to a mysterious Island at the request of a beautiful young woman named Lena. Claiming that the Island is haunted, the gang have to solves the mystery of the 'ghost' and find out who is behind it all.
There is actually a twist in this movie which I did not expect when I first watched it!

Top 5 Tuesdays | Disney Songs | prettylittlewriter

If you're a regular reader of my blog, or you know me IRL, you will know how much I love Disney. It is basically my life; my true love.
One thing I love the most about Disney movies is the soundtracks.

So for this week's Top 5 Tuesday I thought I'd share with you my favourite Disney songs.

1. Hercules - I Won't Say I'm in Love

This is my all time favourite Disney song, EVER. I love this song so much because it depicts my own feelings about love and heartbreak. I never like to admit when I like someone, even more so when I'm in love with someone. So Meg's beautiful solo truly understands my own thoughts.

2. Hercules - Go the Distance

Yes, it's from Hercules again. I think I love the songs more than I love the movie, but not by much! This song is incredibly beautiful and poetic. It really makes you think about your own life and how the lyrics apply to you. Roger Bart has an amazing voice and truly makes you care for Hercules and his struggle.

3. Mulan - I'll Make a Man Out of You

This is such a sassy song in my opinion. It is one of the funniest Disney songs there is, especially when the character of Ling sings 'boy was I a fool in school for cutting gym.'
Whenever I hear thing song it makes me want to watch the movie.

4. Lion King 2 - Love Will Find a Way

Bringing out my romantic side, this song truly gives me hope for love. It's all about how when you love someone, you can overcome any obstacle together. This is also my favourite of the Lion King movies, I prefer it to the first (don't hate me).

5. Frozen - In Summer

It has been very difficult choosing a song from Frozen as my favourite, but my love for Olaf has pushed me in this direction. In Summer is such a fun song and Josh Gadd's voice is amazing. My favourite line has to be 'Winter's a good time to stay in and cuddle, but put me in summer and I'll be a .... happy snowman!'

I also have another song I want to add in here, and as it isn't a Disney song so it doesn't count towards the top 5 (I'm cheating I know ^_^).

This is my Idea from The Swan Princess.

I know all the words and love singing to this! It is such a fun song and absolutely hilarious; from 'If you make me kiss her hand again I swear I'm gonna be sick' to the beautiful chorus between Odette and Derek 'Til now I never knew, it is you I've been dreaming of'. It is such an amazing movie and I could watch it over and over again.

Okay so it was really hard to pick a top 5 out of all the fabulous Disney songs out there, but there we have it.

What are your favourite Disney songs? :)

Top 5 Tuesdays | Disney Movies | prettylittlewriter

For this week's top 5 Tuesday, I thought I'd do something a little different.
If you have read my previous post 20 Facts About Me then you will know I am a huge Disney fanatic.
Any merchandise I see I MUST have!

So this week I thought I'd clue you in on my top 5 favourite Disney movies!
They aren't in any particular order, as even though they are my top five, I can't choose which is my favourite out of them all!

So here they are! It was seriously difficult choosing the top 5 out of my collection, I love so many of them for so many different reasons, but I settled on Aristocats, Frozen, Mulan, Peter Pan and Bambi :)

Aristocats is a favourite of mine because I am a serious cat lover. Marie is my favourite character, but I also love her brothers (and their names!) Toulouse and Berlioz. If I get any pets in the future, I hope to name them after these two adorable animated kitties!
The music is also something I adore, especially the track 'Everybody Wants to be a Cat', it's just such a feel good song!
My favourite scene in the entire movie is when the kittens and their momma have been thrown in a pond by Edgar, and Berlioz gets scared by a toad. It makes me laugh every time and I absolutely love it!

Next up is Frozen. This had to be in my top 5 as I adore it so so much! I love the music, especially 'Do You Wanna Build A Snowman' and 'Let It Go'. The characters are hilarious, especially Olaf and Sven, Olaf is my favourite! My favourite scene in this movie is where Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven have fallen off the mountain after being chased by the giant ice monster. Kristoff hit his head, and when Anna asks if he is okay, he replies that he has a thick skull. Olaf then states 'I don't have a skull. Or bones.' Just the way he says it so matter-of-factly makes me laugh so much!

Mulan is in my top 5 as she is one badass chick. It's nice to see a heroine that needs no man to help her. She is the one who defeats the Huns and it's captain, not the men. She is amazing and an inspiration to young girls everywhere.
I also love the cricket and Mushu. They are hilarious!
My favourite part of this movie is when Mulan has been deserted after Shang finds out she is a woman. She is sat around a fire with Mushu, cricket and the horse when cricket tells them he is not lucky. Mushu exclaims, 'What do you mean you're not lucky? You lied to me?' Then turns to the horse and says 'And what are you a sheep?!'
It makes me giggle, Eddie Murphy is hilarious as Mushu.

Peter Pan also had to be in my favourites as it is just so magical. I love everything from the flying, to the mermaids and the pirates. 'Faith, trust and pixie dust' is one of my favourite quotes. My favourite characters are Smee and little Michael, Wendy's brother. He is just so adorable and reminds me a lot of myself when I was younger with his teddy bear! Smee is one of my favourites as he is so clumsy and stupid, you can't help but laugh at him!
My favourite part within this movie is when Smee puts boiling hot water in the bucket for Captain Hook and he shoots out of the chair burning. It just shows how silly poor Smee is!

And last but not least is Bambi. As I am an animal lover, anything including animals interests me! I also find that animals within Disney movies are also usually the funniest characters. My favourites in this film are Bambi and Thumper. My favourite quote is from Thumper, 'If you can't say something nice, don't saying nothing at all.' It has a much deeper meaning and I love how Disney include these things to help show children right from wrong.
My favourite part of the movie is when Thumper is trying to teach Bambi how to say 'bird'. The way Bambi says the word is so cute and funny, my Mum and I sometimes say it to each other just for a giggle!

So there you have it, my top 5 Disney movies.
Hope you enjoyed this post and the little insight into my interests it gives you.
What are your favourite Disney movies? :)
