How to | Cleaning make up brushes | prettylittlewriter

I thought I'd do something a little different for today's post by showing you all how I clean my make up brushes.
I am in no way saying that my method is the best way, you may have a completely different method that works for you, however this works well for me and leaves my brushes looking pristine.

As you can see above, my make up brushes are quite dirty at the moment. These are the three Real Techniques brushes that I use every day, Kabuki brush for Bronzer and Matte powder, Blush brush for my blusher and Expert Face brush for foundation and concealer.

I was informed by a friend that Johnson's Baby Shampoo is a great product to clean brushes with as it has ingredients that are sensitive towards the skin therefore would be sensitive to the bristles too. And as it is shampoo it works to remove any excess oil and dirt that gathers in the bristles.

My method is to fill my basin/sink with hot to touch water. I then clean the blush brush first as it needs the least amount of cleaning; if you clean your foundation brush first the water will be too dirty and you will have to refill the basin again.

I usually apply a pea-sized amount to the bristles and massage it in; make sure you don't push against the bristles, they will get damaged and you'll end up with a few wild ones.
For the blush brush and the kabuki brush, I usually apply the pea-sized amount two or three times to the brush and wash, alternating. However, for the expert face brush I usually apply it around six times as foundation is a lot more stubborn to clean.

This is the finished result! So much cleaner and no trace of make up in sight!
I then leave them to air dry on a clean surface, usually I grab a clean face cloth/flannel and pop them on my shelf!

Hope this helped with any questions you had about washing your make up brushes, feel free to ask any questions in the comments :)

    1. I have sensitive skin so that's why I thought baby shampoo would be best, but washing up liquid and olive oil sounds like a good way too!
