My Love For October | prettylittlewriter

My favourite month of the entire year has finally arrived!
October to me, is the month I look forward to the most for many reasons.

I thought I'd give you guys a little taste of why I love it so much!

1. The transformation of leaves on trees.
I think the colours that Autumn brings to the leaves are absolutely stunning, it makes going on walks or driving through the countryside so much more beautiful.

2. Pumpkins
I love the appearance of pumpkins, whether that be your standard size or the cute little munchkin ones. I just think they are stunning in their shape, the stalks and overall appearance! And you know it is nearly time for Halloween when they start appearing in supermarkets!

3. Autumn Decor
This time of year for me, is the beginning of decorating your home for the change of seasons. Spring and summer do not really have anything specifically seasonal to add to your home, however, Autumn allows you to decorate with pumpkins, leaves, candles, and anything orange, red and yellow, with a splash of tartan.

4. Getting cosy by the fire
One of the best things about the colder months is being able to wrap up warm in some amazing seasonal clothes, and I especially love being able to wear cosy socks and jumpers and sitting in front of the fire with a nice hot cup of cocoa and a book.

5. Cosy Autumn Blankets
Let's not forget being able to change your duvet up to a higher tog, and adding autumnal blankets to your home decor. I love the colours of the blankets above, and I especially love anything tartan.

6. Candles
And let's not forget the best part about the Autumn/Winter months, bringing out the cosy candles! I love candles at this time of year as they just set such a gorgeous atmosphere, not to mention the delicious scents that come out around Autumn and Winter.

So those are just a few reasons why I love Autumn and October so much.

Barry M Speedy Quick Dry Nail Paint | prettylittlewriter

Spring is only a couple of weeks away, and Barry M have released some gorgeous pastel shades just in time for the new season! But not only are they new shades, they are also a new formula!

Introducing the Barry M Speedy Quick Dry Nail Paint!

I have only purchased two of the shades so far, my favourites out of the collection, 'Full Throttle' and 'In a Heart Beat'. However I will soon be purchasing the rest of the collection when I go shopping after my birthday (which is in 18 days and counting!).

I think these two shades are absolutely gorgeous, 'Full Throttle' reminds me of mangoes and other delicious orange fruits, and 'In a Heart Beat' reminds me of the Yankee Candle Pink Dragonfruit candle!

I have tried out both shades, and can honestly say they do dry much faster than the original Barry M nail paints, however you do need to apply around 3 coats to get an opaque colour.

The collection can be purchased from the official Barry M website, Boots and Superdrug.

Have you purchased any of the shades in the new collection? What are your opinions?

How to | Chocolate Orange Hot Chocolate | prettylittlewriter

After being inspired both by the cold weather and one of Zoella's Christmas DIY videos, I wanted to make my own Chocolate Orange Hot Chocolate and I thought I'd share the process with you!

Ingredients

Milk of your choice (I chose semi-skimmed)
Squirty cream
Terry's chocolate orange
Hot chocolate (not a necessary ingredient)
Marshmallows

Equipment

Pan
Mug
Spoon/Stirrer

First I turned on the hob and measured out the milk by simply pouring it in the mug to the amount I wanted and then pouring that into the pan and heating it up. During this be sure to continually stir the milk as you do not want to burn it.

I then added some Aero hot chocolate (which is not a necessary step unless you want your hot chocolate to be really chocolaty!) and stirred that into the milk.

Then I added about half of the Terry's chocolate orange ball to the milk and mixed that in until it was all melted. However half the chocolate orange ball was slightly too much so I'd recommend only putting a quarter in.

I then added some squirty cream and marshmallows to finish it off and voila! My little masterpiece :)

I hope you enjoyed this post and I would love to see you create your own Chocolate Orange Hot Chocolates, it's so simple!

Review | Mac Lipsticks | prettylittlewriter

I received my Mac order this afternoon and I thought I'd show you how amazing they are!

I chose to purchase the colours Morange and Hang Up as I wanted to try a bright orange shade for summer and be prepared for Autumn/Winter with Hang Up. I originally said in this post that I would be purchasing Russian Red too, but as I've had to spend a lot of my wages on dollars for America, I thought I'd wait a while before purchasing that shade.

Mac Lipsticks are slowly becoming my absolute favourite and I know many other bloggers have given rave reviews about them. They also smell great (like cocoa) which makes applying them to the lips even more satisfying!
Morange is a well pigmented, slightly matte, bright coral shade and looks great for any summer make up look. Hang Up is a deep purple shade with a shine to it due to it being a cremesheen lipstick.

As you can see from the swatches, Morange is nowhere near as shiny as Hang Up, and Hang Up isn't as pigmented as Morange.

These are the shades on my lips, I love both of them so much and cannot wait to start wearing them!

As you can see, both shades give a completely different effect to your final make up look. Morange gives my make up a nice bright and summery feel to it, and Hang Up gives it a more vampy and wintery look!

Do you have any favourite Mac lipstick shades? :)

Top 5 Tuesday | Nail Polish | prettylittlewriter

For this week's Top 5 Tuesday, I thought I'd show you my current favourite Nail Polishes.

From left to right: Max Factor Max Effects Mini Nail Polish in Candy Blue; Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint in BlueberryBarry M Nail Paint in Red Wine; Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint in Green Berry; Liz Earle Strengthening Nail Colour in Awakening.

The Max Factor Max Effects Mini Nail Polish is one of my favourites as the colour is very deep and only requires one coat! I'm not sure why it's called Candy Blue as I always see Candy as being a pale colour and this is quite a dark blue. The one thing I will say is that I do not like how tiny the packaging is. Yes it is called a 'mini' nail polish, but they don't even do a normal sized version. It doesn't fit quite right with the rest of my collection, and it doesn't last very long either.

The next one is the Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint in Blueberry. This is a really nice pastel blue colour, usually needs two coats for it to become opaque. A pretty shade for spring/summer and is one of my go-to nail polishes.

Next up is the Barry M Nail Paint in Red Wine. Both this and the Blueberry Gelly Polish are only available from the Superdrug website, I'm not sure why that is. This is my go-to shade when I want vampy nails. It is a lovely deep red colour and doesn't wash me out like a lot of other red shades do (I have very pale skin!). I have had this exact pot of polish since I was 16, that's 4 years! The consistency is still thick but not gloopy and it is only half empty. For this reason alone it is definitely worthy of a spot in my top 5.

The next is the gorgeous Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint in Green Berry. This is such a cute colour for spring/summer. A lovely pastel green shade, it gives your nails a dash of pop! I have used this shade a lot over the summer, it is definitely one of my favourites!

And last but not least is the Liz Earle Strengthening Nail Colour in Awakening. Mentioned in my previous Liz Earle Review post, it has vastly become one of my favourites as it is such a pretty pale orange shade. I'm trying to branch out on the products I use, especially attempting to try out different colours as I usually stick to what I know (reds, pinks and nudes). Orange is a very daring shade, so when I saw this one I had to try it out as it isn't too bright. It also has a slight shimmer to it, so once applied to your nails they have little flecks of shimmer on them. It also dries relatively quickly, which is something I look for in nail polish as I get impatient when painting my nails and usually end up smudging them!
The only downside to this polish is that because it's such a pale shade, it take about 3 coats before you get anywhere near a block colour.

So there you have it, my top 5 nail polishes! Hope you've enjoyed it, if so leave me a comment or question :)
